Despite the abundance of neckties on the market from the skinnies of Topman and H&M to the more conservative, classic styles available pretty much everywhere there’s a real dearth of original designs. Sovereign Beck, beloved of myself and also, maven Annmarie of I Blog Fashion, offer neckwear that sets itself apart from the staid pinstripes and diamond-patterns but isn’t ostentatious in doing so.
(L to R) Zig-zag, Ripple and Thatch
I’ll admit, though, that the economic turbulence of the past year seems to have exerted some force over Beck’s creative control. 2009’s ties are good (a second collaboration with screenprinter Polluted Eyeball), but there’s no denying these are safer, more traditionally customer-friendly models compared to the irreverence of some of looks from 2008’s zig-zag-fest.
All that’s preventing me from proffering the dosh, though, is the not-so-recession-friendly pricetag. Then again, when silk and ‘Made in NYC’ labels are involved $90 a piece doesn’t seem so extortionate.
ooh ties my one weakness, adore that Thatch one..ties and cufflinks..men dont do them enough
^ The 'Thatch' is my favourite, too./Male-Mode.com
