What Should Young Guys Actually Be Wearing

I need to preface this article by telling you to wear whatever you want. Society constantly tries to crush people’s sense of individuality, so you should fight that whenever you can, whether you’re a 15 year old with an unhealthy obsession with Cliff Richard or a 70 year old who has already caught 70 different Pokémon on Pokémon Go. However, fashions are fashionable for a reason and that’s because they look good and people like looking good and just because you’re dressed in something popular, doesn’t mean you can’t also influence it with your own unique style. So without further ado, here are the current fashionable styles for young guys (between 18 and 30 for the purposes of this article).

Green

Green tends to not be fashionable due to its military connotations, however it’s fighting for legitimacy in the fashion world at the moment, and you know what?, it’s now okay to wear it. We’re not talking Joker-style neon green here, but a more khaki or olive green is what you need to be aiming for. Pairing a green jacket and white trousers is a great look, but going for a muted monochromatic look can also work really well. Try experimenting and see what you think.

Dad ‘Fash’

You’ve heard of ‘Dad Bod’ now I’ve coined the term ‘Dad Fash’ which is the current fashion phenomenon of dressing like your dad. For some reason Dad fashions have become fashionable, particularly for the younger gentleman. Who would have thought they’d be right all along with their perennial fleece, bumbags (now slung over the shoulder, though), anoraks, and baseball caps (more on that in a moment).

Souvenir Jackets

The souvenir jacket comes from the US military’s time in Japan. They would have their bomber jackets handcrafted into something new. Usually it consisted of American iconography (eagles, probably … or burgers) mixed with more traditional Japanese iconography. Some can look positively stunning (we all know how beautiful kimonos can be).

The Accessories

Now that we’ve gone through some of the basic styles, let’s take a look at some of the accessories you need to be thinking about to spice up your looks.

  • Long and Lightweight Scarf – Scarves look great for some of the cooler days in summer, but make sure you pick one with a very lightweight fabric to make sure you don’t overheat. To stay extra fashionable go for a scarf with bold block colors.
  • Bandana Neckerchief – Believe it or not, the neckerchief is back in fashion. You heard correct. It’s finally time to relive those Dexy’s Midnight Runner fantasies. These neckerchiefs are longer and looser, however, than the Dexy varieties, meaning they’re cooler (heat wise) and give your outfit a more relaxed look.
  • Classics – Chances are if something was being worn over 50 years ago, it’s probably now got a modern twist on it. Take a gander at sites like formaltailor.com and you’ll see that classic, stylish fashions always stay classically fashionable.
  • Baseball Caps – Gone are the days that only baseball stars, dads, and rappers can pull them off. Baseball caps are for everyone – as long as they remain relatively understated.

Like I said earlier, just experiment and you’ll find a way to exercise your individuality and creativity, but remaining fashionable in the eyes of society.
