Must apologise for the quietness around here but I’ve been shopping for the first time in months and due to the sales at present thorough, time-consuming bargain-hunting was called for. Anyway, I’ll get to the real point of this post – Lanvin menswear-designer Lucas Ossendrijver’s recent triumph.

At first glance, it all appeared a somewhat safe affair and I was indifferent but on closer inspection, it’s easy to understand the appreciative applause given by the audience following the showing. As Ms. Susie Bubble might say, it’s all in the deets and what deets they were. Ossendrijver employed pintucking, pleating and ruching to achieve a collection which was coherent, exciting and yet very much relaxed. The pyjama trend, which has cropped up several times since Dolce and Gabbana showed a while ago, was also evident at Lanvin with pants and shorts voluminous and pleasingly slouchy.

But it wasn’t all sack-sized. What, for me, was the highlight of the collection was entirely the opposite of the aforementioned – lean, lean, lean pants with almost sensual ruching.

One of his best yet?

nice stuff, one of his best, but not the best

It’s one of the best Lanvin collections so far. The colours, the sheen of the fabrics… and the volume! The volume is a lot easier to carry this time round, not as boyish…

Never apologise for shopping! After two weeks of tedium Lanvin finally lifted my skirt. Although the some of the shoes erred a little to close last season’s Comme, but I could be nit-picking!

Lucas at Lanvin and Christopher at Burberry can dress me anytime. This show shows that all eyes are on Lanvin and Ossendrijver is fast becoming the best menswear designer. I love every look. How did you get on at the sales?

  • B July 4, 2008 at 10:10 am

and where did the rumor of ethnic casting come from/go to?

  • Dustcakeboy July 4, 2008 at 10:51 am

mond: Agreed. He’s come so very far but he has done, and will do, better.addy: The ample volume here was a much more effective interpretation than in many other collections which attempted to introduce it this season.digo: Thanks for the links!Ms. B: Although I’m highly impressed, I’m not sure we’ve seen his most perfect offering. Fingers crossed for even better things.Imelda: I should apologise when you see the trash I bought! Gah!Steve: Mediocre, to be honest but you can critique my purchases once I get the photos up! Soon, I promise!b: I know, right? Wasn’t it supposed to be an all-Latin line-up?/DCB.

But would any man wear it? Sorry to come in here with my everyman eye, but I’m not seeing these outfits on me…or anyone I know.Of course I am small and squat and not tall and lean, so perhaps I am out altogether from this market. Also – post more, dammit. You promised!
