Back in late May when I arrived in London with the lofty ambition of securing a paid job, I was, to say the least, a bit green. Despite having packed my toothbrush and trusty tri-coloured boat shoes, I had neglected to turn my train of thought to oh, you know, the major issues of opening an English bank account and organising an interview for an NI number.
So, having saved from previous part-time jobs, I thought an internship was a better bet, considering leaving was not an option (I’d already become rather addicted to local weekend warehouse parties and Red Stripe). A flurry of emails followed and I managed to secure a spot at Carolyn Massey, otherwise known as creatress of contemporary menswear that’s as wearable as it is steeped in historical reference and rich in military detailing. Win.
But before I managed to wrangle that, I’d met with the v. talented and gorge Rebecca and Jessica of IDOL magazine, who were on the hunt for an editorial assistant. Although I declined the opportunity, it’s so great to see the amazing work they’re putting out on a near daily basis – from personal anecdotes to gig reviews, designer interviews to amaze editorials that beg to be in print.
Here are a few menswear highlights I’ve fallen in love with so far…
^ I hadn’t got missing Electric Picnic blues ’til seeing this, still this year’s Field Day mitigated the pang a bit.

^ Naturally the one editorial that actually inspires me to wear more colour arrives at the v. end of the Summer.
