Although, having said that, from what I’ve seen it was a decidedly average affair with the menswear actually topping the womenswear. That rather speaks volumes wouldn’t you agree? Anyway, the highlights for me…or if you would prefer something a little more apt and buckets more cheesy, the nominees are…
Firstly, let’s all agree she’s a bit of a state. As for Dan the Man, I felt the very subtle piping worked wonders. He seems to have effectively grasped the basic concept of menswear, less is most definitely more and minute alterations and embellishments render the biggest impact.
Probably my pick for the win. One doesn’t happen upon ‘buttoned-up’ too often, any such instance should be enjoyed, and the source of this enjoyment, admired. In this case, the immense Javier Bardem.
Again, another illustrative example of the Oscar women’s collective folly this year. Depp is consistently well turned-out, however, am I sensing an inkling of conservativeness eating away at his trademark quirk?
And your Oscar goes to?

I agree. Bardem was looking sharp. Day-Lewis was in good form as well. I thought Depp looked disheveled in a bad way. He looked like he was wearing his Father’s tux. And his crosstie didn’t work with his shirt choice either. I thought there were some real standouts in ladies eveningwear choices. Tilda Swinton was dramatic in Lanvin, and whatsherface from The Notebook and The Devil Wears Prada and Jessica Alba both looked great in Marchesa. Some good showings from Cavalli as well. And P. Diddy looked great too.
My heart goes pitter pat for Daniel Day. I don’t care about his shoes or earrings. That man is perfection!
vanessa paradis looks so cool !! i mean better than as usually !!
Ian: Agreed, some of the ladies were astoundingly dressed although I’ve seen Swinton do better. There were quite a few Cavalli appearances and I wasn’t too fond of that and as for P.Diddy…try-hard was the only word that came to mind!Riz: I’m still not feeling it! Many of my female acquaintances are head over heels for him but I’m missing out.Mr Style: It wasn’t the worst but still rather dowdy./DCB.
Marion Cotillard.
It is always easier for the women to get all of the atention but the men did well this year! The Oscar winners looked extremely sharp, my personal favourite was Day-Lewis…although I’m far from a fan of his piercings. Marion Cotillard stole the show red carpet really.
