Ode to the New Look Robe

January 1, 2008
Yes it may be 100% polyester, yes it’s hue may veer towards the duller black pigments and yes it’s unquestionably cheap…

But, this New Look bathrobe/dressing gown/what-you-will is one of the most noteworthy and useful elements of my Christmas haul. Sad, isn’t it? Not exactly. Think of all those hours spent with splendid abandon lounging decadently on the sofa while viewing some early Almodóvar or late Hitchcock, lying resplendently in your tousled bed sheets on a Sunday morning sipping some Java while poring over the packed-out pages of The Times or looming ravenously over a mound of fresh pastries at the breakfast table. What would these times be without the humble dressing gown? Not so lavish I imagine. Its soft texture and copious mass have innumerable benefits.

This particular gown was available from New Look [and is not done justice by my inherently shoddy photography] but I’m not sure if it’s still in stock. Have a try anyway, it’s most certainly worthwhile. Your inner hedonist will love you for it.

I recently got a wonderful night blue robe as well and it’s so luxurious yet practical since you can just throw it over your PJs and look presentable.

I’ve always find the robe somewhat edgy or cool after seeing Paul Newman in Cat on a Hot tin Roof haha…Now, I want mine as well.
