I really do love Raf Simons‘ work but what with the spate of disappointing collaborations he’s been partaking in recently I sometimes wonder why. Here’s another cash-cow, the product of Simons’ and Doc Marten‘s labour.
Not gonna lie, I really do feel the urge to just deride these “gladiator-inspired” creations, yet simultaneously the patent leather (is there a material which I adore more?) has managed to convince me to do otherwise and consider the positive aspects. They’re black and white for the most part, a colour combination which I invariably applaud and the winding, serpent-like straps are strangely seductive. In fact, I think it’s just the chunky, Caterpillar boots-esque rubber soles that have me gone off the whole affair. For shame, just when I thought mens footwear was getting even more interesting, it turns out to be that little bit too unwearable.
-EDIT. Am now most definitely interested. Just scoped out these 3 eye shoes which are also part of the SS09 collaboration. Full details at the Dr Martens Blog.

^ No further information other that they’re to be in stores some time during the Spring! Apologies./Male Mode.
Those are insane, and not in a good way. We all love patent, when it’s done well. The version on the right I could probably see myself attempting to rock, but never in a million years would I bother with such a creation as on the left.
Red stitching ftw.
everyone is needing money badly these days.if raf simons has gotta do this to keep the raf simons name and brand healthy and growing, i’m with it.plus i would totallllly wear those first two.
hmm i dunno the sandals might be a little too weird for me
I’m intrigued by the sandals as a concept for women but for a lot of guys, it may be a step too far….
